What do Clients Say?

Jon Barnwell served not only as our buyer's agent for the purchase of our Lake Burton cabin, he was my first Rabun County friend. Using Jon as a realtor was simply a pleasure. He not only knows his facts and figures but is easy to talk with, good natured and semi-humorous. Kidding folks. He actually has a great sense of humor, which keeps one happily entertained as you bump around Rabun County looking at properties.Jon is a true salt-of-the-earth kind of guy. He rattles off info on local swimming holes and casting suggestions as easily as real estate figures. This guy and his world-of-Rabun-County knowledge are true gems. He could write a book on the ins and outs of Rabun County - including all there is to know about the local real estate market.A fact I also appreciated, is that Jon is not simply a county-bumpkin (not that there's anything wrong with that) local realtor. This guy is a worldly guy. The man has been around. In the same breath as speaking about an exciting Lake Burton listing, he'll recommend a new hot-spot in Buckhead to try. It's like he's here, there and everywhere at once. If it weren't so darn impressive, it'd be a little freaky.Jon seems to know the exact status of every Lake Burton and Lake Rabun property. Who owns the place, how old the septic system, and which surrounding roads are named for who's grandfather. His knowledge and stories are both charming and interesting. They help you get a vision and feeling for what Rabun County is all about. Jon's introduction to the North Georgia lakes and mountain region is a wonderful welcome. Making the purchase of a home there even more exciting. After the swift and painless closing of our Lake Burton cabin in 2009, Jon was beyond helpful in suggesting what builder was right for the job of additions and improvements. I would trust Jon heading up a multi-million dollar sale, with the same amount of confidence that he'd come to the rescue if one's car was broken down on some old Forrest Service road.Jon is professional, personable and a trustworthy businessman all rolled into one. To know him, is to be impressed by him. It's just that simple. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

About Jon

Jon Barnwell has worked as a Realtor in Rabun County, Georgia since 2005, having first moved to the area from Atlanta in 1986.  He is a local graduate of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School and earned a B.S. Degree from the pre-veterinary program at Berry College in Rome, GA.  After graduating college, Jon managed a farm in northwestern Pennsylvania for a number of years before coming home to begin a career in real estate.

At RE/MAX of Rabun Jon has gained valuable wisdom by working alongside the best real estate agents in the business, many of whom have more than thirty years of experience.  Hard work and long hours, along with innovative technology and creative marketing strategies have resulted in Jon earning a place among the top agents in northeast Georgia.

Since he became a Realtor, Jon has been active on the boards of several local organizations, and continues to volunteer for and sponsor their fundraising events. These include the Rabun United Christmas Fund, Lake Rabun Ramble 5K and 10K, Tour of Homes, and the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School Alumni Council.  He also currently serves as president of the Rabun County Board of Realtors, and has been a past member of the Community Service Committee,  Member Services and Awards Committee, and chaired the MLS Committee within the Board.  He is also a member of the Lake Rabun Association and the Lake Burton Civic Association.

His commitment to leadership and education influenced Jon to pursue professional designations from the National and Georgia Association of Realtors; he earned the ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) and CLHMS (Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist) designations, as well as local and national recognition from RE/MAX including multiple monthly and annual Top Seller at RE/MAX of Rabun. Jon has achieved Platinum, Executive, and 100% Club Awards from RE/MAX International.  He has also been inducted into the RE/MAX International Hall of Fame.

Outdoor activities and the natural beauty are major attractions in Rabun County, and the local history is quite compelling.  Jon has a great store of knowledge about Rabun County’s history and resources.  A day with spent with him looking at lake homes, mountain cabins, or land around Rabun County can also include learning about local plant species, wildlife, or a story about the towns now submerged beneath Lake Burton.  Jon and his wife, Elizabeth, spend their free time exploring the north Georgia mountains, enjoying the many fine local restaurants (fun fact: Rabun County is the farm-to-table capital of Georgia), and occasionally slipping away to new places when time allows.

Jon Barnwell truly enjoys serving all areas of the real estate market in Rabun County.
