We first met John (and Jennifer) at an open house that we casually stopped by in November 2016. We were in the early stages of a professional relocation to Reno, from Las Vegas and were mostly “area shopping” at that point, as we were still living in Las Vegas at the time. While the house and area weren’t quite what we would be looking for, John engaged us in great and very helpful conversation that afternoon. He shared his extensive Reno background with us along with his vast knowledge & experience of the local real estate market. It was evident that he knew his ‘stuff’ and it was clear that he is very confident in himself and his abilities. That always appeals to me and we had not retained a real estate agent yet, so we were becoming interested in John representing us in the future. We shared with John that we were just getting started in the process, that we would not be physically relocating until Spring 2017 and it would likely be Summer until we would actually be in market. That was just fine with John and in fact he was eager to get us set up with weekly emailed listings and working with us over that time to narrow the scope of area’s and house types that most suited us. This way, when we were ready to officially begin house hunting, we would have a narrowed focus which would maximize our effort and likely reduce the stress. After some discussion, we chose to retain John as our realtor, which turned out to be a great decision. When Summer of 2017 rolled around, we got serious about finding a home and John went to work on it for us. He pre-qualified quite a few homes per our criteria before presenting options to us. We looked at many homes, most of them could have worked for us, which is a credit to his pre-qualifying efforts. After a couple of weeks, John hurried us to a showing of a home that had just come back on the market and that he knew would last a couple days at most. Well, it was the one and we knew it within an hour of arrival. We chose to make an offer immediately and sure enough, the interest in the home was building fast. John gave us great advise on the structure of an offer, all things considered and ultimately did a great job negotiating on our behalf – and in no time we were in contract. The process from start to finish, including financing and closing was smooth, pain free and effortless. John knows what he’s doing, understands this market very well, is a good communicator and has the energy that you want in a realtor. John Oliver has called the Reno-Tahoe area home for over 40 years.
