I get asked the same question numerous times each year; How did you end up moving to Martha's Vineyard Island from Columbia Missouri?  The answer is quite simple: I made a promise in 1980 to my "then" fiance Amy Cooper (a Vineyard summer girl) that we would someday move to the island.  That "someday" became a gloious day on January 5, 1998!

After 17 years of fine tuning my real estate skills in Central Missouri and after analyzing the island real estate market as a seaonal visitor, Amy and I made the decision to sell the farm (we had a 70 acre horse farm specializing in the therapeutic use of horses for people with disabilities) and move to the "rock".  We brought with us our 2 teenage children, a Quarter Horse and 2 dogs.  Ellie, our oldest is now an administrator in the department of Nuerology at Childrens Hospital in Boston.  She graduated from Univerity of Richmond in 2004 and later obtained her Masters Degree in Public Health from Tufts Univerity Medical School. Our son Sam, a bit of a free spirit, graduated from Eckerd College in St Petersburg Flordia in 2006 and is now a graduate student at Utah State in Loagn Utah where he is studying Educational Technologies.  In 2007 we welcomed 10 year old Lily into our home.  Lily, originaly from Shanghi China was in need of a place to live as her adoptive parents ran into some bad luck.  She is now a sophomore in high school who loves to dance and act and hang out with her friends.  Amy teaches 5th and 6th grade at the island Public Charter School and rides her Warmblood horse "Alex" at any opportunity.

I have been in the real estate business since 1982.  After graduating from the University of Missouri in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management, I spent time in the construction business.  In 1982, my grandfather(age 74) retired and obtained his real estate license for a 2nd career.  At his urging, I, too, obtained my license and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

After moving to the island in 1998 I worked at Harborside Realty in Edgartown for 4 years.  In March 2002, I purchased the REMAX franchise and opened RE/MAX on island. In 2006 I was presented "The REMAX Hall of Fame Award" and am continually in the Platinum Club for annual sales production.   

I beleive that my job is more in the consulting/sevice aspect than sales.  Yes, I do need sales skills to help everyone through the process, but my goal is not the "deal" or "sale". I am in this business for the long term and therefore want to gain your respect and trust so you are comfortable in recommending me to your friends and family.
