About Tyler and How He Works

Tyler Shelton views his role in assisting buyers and sellers as more than a career. To him, it is also a responsibility and an opportunity to make a positive impact on others’ lives. Home buyers and sellers have their money on the line, and Tyler does not take that lightly. He makes sure that his clients have all the pertinent facts; that they understand the legalese contained in their contracts and disclosures; and that they know their options. He never sugar coats the truth and points out the positive and negative aspects when decisions need to be made. No one likes surprises during a real estate transaction, and Tyler ensures that his clients know what to expect during each step of the process.

Tyler is known for his easy-going, friendly attitude, his cooperative nature and his jovial spirit. But when his clients’ interests are at stake, his intense loyalty, tenacity, negotiating skills and problem solving abilities come to the forefront.

Tyler has always had a passion for real estate. While he was in college studying architecture, he worked for a company designing and selling new homes. Later, Tyler started his own retail business, which grew to three locations. Tyler went on to get his business degree, with an emphasis in marketing. His real estate interests continued to grow, however. Eventually, he and a long-time friend ventured into the new construction field. Tyler obtained his Class A builder’s license and they began to build.

Things now have come full circle for Tyler. With over 17 years of local real estate experience, Tyler has settled into a job that he loves and that is more rewarding than he ever could have imagined.

Tyler’s background has not only honed his real estate skills, but taught him the skills necessary to be the calm in the storm and to maintain the positive outlook that leads to successful problem solving. His experience and knowledge encompass all facets of the industry, and he works with clients who are buying and/or selling homes, as well as those who are in need of property management assistance. Tyler utilizes his background in design and knowledge about construction to help his clients realize the full potential each home has to offer. This experience gives him a unique perspective – one that most other agents simply cannot match.

Tyler understands the necessity of education, which has been one of the keys to his success. He has invested many hours of continued education in order to provide his clients with the best service possible. Tyler completed the upper level training series that was required for him to earn his broker’s license, which he obtained in 2013. Tyler also has obtained the Senior Real Estate Expert and Certified Negotiator Expert industry designations, in addition to the Certified Distressed Property (Short Sale) Expert certification. RE/MAX has an extensive training program that provides regular training courses on the latest industry trends and legal changes for which Tyler also participates.

Tyler has won several awards for his hard work, including the Hampton Roads Realtor Association “Circle of Excellence” and RE/MAX Presidents Club. Tyler says his biggest achievement is his customer satisfaction score of over 97%. But more important than any award or score he says is his clients’ confidence in him and their continual referrals of their family and friends.

Tyler and his wife, Jane, are natives of Hampton Roads and have parents who were also raised in the area. They have seen the area grow from a small town to a major economic hub. Tyler and Jane embrace the active lifestyle that Hampton Roads offers and are grateful to have been raised in such a beautiful place. People from all across the country plan vacations to experience the wonders of our area, while those who live here can enjoy everything it has to offer each and every day.

In his spare time Tyler enjoys sailing and spending time outdoors or on the beach, traveling, scuba diving, viewing classic cars when opportunities arise, and working on home renovation projects. Once the house is finished, Tyler will begin restoring his 1966 Chevy II Super Sport, which he has had since age 15 and originally belonged to his Granny.

When asked what he appreciates most about being a real estate professional, Tyler says it’s the fact that each day brings something – or someone – new.  The variety keeps him fresh and on his toes, and the friendships he enjoys with present and past clients bring a special richness to his life.
